Lab grown diamonds have many different names like laboratory grown, synthetic, man-made, cultured and engineered diamonds.
Lab grown diamonds are essentially composed of the same materials and are
chemically, optically, and physically the same as natural diamonds. They are even graded and certified in the same manner as natural diamonds.
The main difference lies in the origin of the diamonds. As the name suggests, lab grown diamonds are made in a laboratory with a controlled technological process; whereas natural diamonds occur naturally and are mined from the Earth.
There are 2 main processes used to make diamonds in labs:
- CVD - Chemical Vapor Deposition
- HPHT - High Pressure High Temperature
